In a bid to tame crime and other security-related challenges, the people of Aguleri community in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State have resolved to invoke 6 deities in the community for protection and spiritual warfare.
This is coming barely six months after some communities in the state toed same path by invoking the native Ofor deities of the communities for similar purpose.
While those Anambra communities embarked on "Iti Ofo" , the people of Aguleri as their tradition demands, will involve Alusi, otherwise known as itu alusi in all parts of the community on Friday, July 14th 2023.
The indigenes are expected to troop out en masse over the weekend, to witness and be part of the spiritual exercise, which would be led by the spiritual heads (Ajana priests) of the various Ajana deities in the community, numbering over 30.
The group will tour round the borders (entrance and exit points of the community) and other significant junctions in various parts of the Aguleri Otu and Aguleri Uno communities, with Ajana priests and holding the spiritual symbol or ancestral staff of their deities.
The most dangerous deities from the three quarters of Aguleri were selected:
1. Otutunzu Aguleri
2. Ovilivo Okene Igboezunu Aguleri
3. Iyi Enu and Iyi Ana in Ivite Aguleri.
4. Ovido in Mkpunando Aguleri.
5. Aniedo in Enugwu Aguleri and
6. Ngene Ovili in Eziagulu Otu.
Armed with the above mentioned deities, the Priests will also rotationally make incantations and pronouncements at the various locations, placing curse on, and invoking the deities to expose and wage severe war against anybody or group that would henceforth conceive, mastermind, or attempt to perpetrate or indulge in any form of crime in the community, be it murder, kidnap, rape, poisoning, or other related crimes.
