By Dr Innocent Chidumebi Okonkwo

THE Anambra State High Court sitting at Onitsha has released the 6 suspects who were arrested for vandalising and stealing of property during a burial ceremony in Aguleri.

The PG of Aguleri community Assembly, Bar Rolex Ifeanyi Iloakasia, the Aguleri National Youth President, Com. Emeka Chinwuba, PG of Eziagulu Otu Aguleri attended the court proceeding yesterday, being Friday 12th July 2023. They told the Hon court the decision of Aguleri stakeholders to resolve the matter at community level.

On June 2023, the seven suspects were arrested and detained at State CID Annex, formerly known as Awkuzu SARS for participating in the alleged criminal activities. One of the suspects was allegedly killed in detention by a cell mate. As a result of the incident, the 5 traditional rulers of Aguleri and their 5 Town union Presidents subsequently resolved to bring back the remaining 6 suspects home and reconcile the matter at community level.

The presiding judge of the court, Justice Tagbo Aneto gave a verdict upon a motion filed by the PG Barr. Rolex Iloakasia in favor of the suspects.

Rolex had prayed the court for an order granting bail to the applicant and/or releasing them from detention and custody of the respondents at the cell of the State CID, Awkuzu.

They were subsequently released to the community leaders and a group photograph was taken as a mark of reconciliation process.
