The Mgboko Igboezunu Aguleri council has taken action against Dr. Samuel Nnana, Benjamin Nnana, and others accused of defamation against Dr. Innocent Chidumebi Okonkwo and Arc Solomon Okonkwo. Dr. Nnana caused the publication of a defamatory statement claiming trespass, malicious damage, assault and threat to life which was widely distributed, including to the Aguleri Royal cabinet and local police station.
One of the accused, Iyom Ugomma Okonkwo nee Manava, petitioned the council to summon Dr. Nnana and his associates.
However, they failed to appear, prompting the council to impose a fine of N20,000 and offer another chance for Dr. Nnana and co to explain themselves on Monday. If they don't show up, the Mgboko council will make a decision in their absence.
The indigenes of Mgboko also frowned that Dr. Nnana jumped into the land dispute of Ogbocha land without consultation, which according to them was a huge embarrassment to the village.
Nonetheless, the council's ruling underscores the importance of addressing defamation and promoting accountability within the Mgboko Igboezunu community.
